Fifty years of plate tectonics in the Central Andes

Victor A. Ramos

Summary: The review of the last 50 years of plate tectonics application in understanding the formation of the Andes has revealed several milestones, including changes in volcanic arc compositions, control of subduction zone geometry, and evolution of crustal roots. Technological advances have led to the emergence of new hypotheses and ongoing validation processes.
