Recent progress in base-catalyzed isomerization of D-glucose into D-fructose

Irina Delidovich

Summary: The development of a catalytic process for the isomerization of D-glucose into D-fructose is crucial for utilizing lignocellulosic feedstocks effectively. This review focuses on the application of basic catalysts such as solid bases, amines, and buffers. Recent studies suggest that hydroxide ions play a catalytically active role in amine catalysis, while solid bases mainly catalyze isomerization homogeneously.

Summary: The development of a robust MgO-D-LaA system without using extra chiral ligand achieved high LaA yield and enantiomeric excess. Experimental and computational results revealed a synergistic effect between MgO and D-LaA, facilitating the production of pyruvaldehyde from dihydroxyacetone and glyceraldehyde.

Glucose isomerization catalyzed by swollen cellulose derived aluminum-hydrochar

Jianglong Liu et al.

Summary: Efficient isomerization of glucose to fructose is achieved by impregnating aluminum on hydrochar derived from cellulose, with amorphous Al structures on the catalyst surface playing a key role in catalytic activity. The formation of Al crystals, on the other hand, inhibits glucose isomerization. This study presents a novel strategy for glucose isomerization using Al-hydrochar prepared through hydrothermal carbonization and mild calcination activation process.
