Advanced Cr(VI) sorption properties of activated carbon produced via pyrolysis of the Posidonia oceanica seagrass

Georgios Asimakopoulos et al.

Summary: This research investigates the use of activated carbon derived from Posidonia oceanica for the removal of Cr(VI) from wastewater. The activated carbon exhibited high specific surface area and pore volume, with a significant portion allocated to micro-pores. Batch experiments showed the material's excellent sorption properties and high adsorption capacity, with a maximum uptake capacity of 120 mg/g. Kinetic modeling revealed that the Diffusion-Chemisorption model best described the adsorption process.

Interaction between hexavalent chromium and biologically formed iron mineral-biochar composites: Kinetics, products and mechanisms

Lecheng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an iron mineral-biochar composite (IMBC) was prepared through biochar-mediated reduction of iron minerals, showing a high removal efficiency for Cr(VI) through adsorbed Fe(II) and following pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model. The presence of biochar decreased the reactivity of adsorbed Fe(II) but enhanced the removal capacities by increasing the yields of adsorbed Fe(II) on IMBC. These results contribute to our understanding of the interactions among biochar, iron minerals, and iron-reducing bacteria in chromium immobilization.

Summary: In this study, a novel nanocrystalline chlorapatite (CIAP) was successfully prepared using eggshell wastes as a calcium source by a green method. The CIAP showed excellent stability and adsorption performance for Cr(VI), and demonstrated potential for multiple reuses. This material has the capability to be a promising candidate for enhancing oxyanion contaminants such as Cr(VI) removal from water.

Comprehensive investigation of the mechanism for Cr(VI) removal from contaminated water using coconut husk as a biosorbent

Renuka Verma et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanism of Cr(VI) removal by organic matter from contaminated water using coconut husk as a representative material. The findings revealed that the removal process is essentially a sorption coupled redox process, involving adsorption at functional groups followed by oxidation of major components and reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III).

Adsorption and reduction of Cr(VI) by a novel nanoscale FeS/chitosan/biochar composite from aqueous solution

Yan Yang et al.

Summary: The study synthesized FeS/chitosan/biochar composite (FSBC) to effectively remove Cr(VI) from water, demonstrating enhanced adsorption capacity compared to individual FeS particles and biochar. Increasing temperature promoted removal of Cr(VI), while increasing Cl- and SO42- concentrations and solution pH hindered adsorption. The results suggest that FSBC can be high-effective adsorbents for Cr(VI) removal in water environments, with the removal mechanism involving surface adsorption, reduction, and precipitation.
