Modeling of photosynthesis and respiration rate for microalgae-bacteria consortia

Ana Sanchez Zurano et al.

Summary: This study highlighted the significant influence of irradiance on microalgae photosynthesis rates, while temperature and pH strongly affected the activities of heterotrophic and nitrifying bacteria. Additionally, dissolved oxygen concentrations above 20 mg/L were found to reduce the photosynthetic rate of microalgae.

Wastewater treatment by microalgal membrane bioreactor: Evaluating the effect of organic loading rate and hydraulic residence time

A. K. M. Ashadullah et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of microalgal-based membrane bioreactors in treating synthetic wastewater under different conditions of organic loading rate (OLR) and hydraulic residence time (HRT). Results showed significant impacts of OLR and HRT on microalgal biomass production, wastewater removal efficiency, and fouling characteristics. Careful selection of OLR and HRT is crucial for achieving optimal efficiency of MMBR in treating domestic wastewater.

Nutrient recovery and microalgae biomass production from urine by membrane photobioreactor at low biomass retention times

Thanh-Tin Nguyen et al.

Summary: Cultivating microalgae in urine using a lab-scale membrane photobioreactor (MPBR) system, it was found that a low biomass retention time of 7 days resulted in significantly higher biomass productivity and nutrient removal rates.
