Interaction between tetracycline and microorganisms during wastewater treatment: A review

Quan Liao et al.

Summary: Tetracycline (TC) is a commonly used antibiotic in human and veterinary medicine, which is discharged into wastewater as parent compounds. The activated sludge processes in wastewater treatment plants are not effective in removing TC, and the impact of TC in wastewater treatment processes and removal methods should be emphasized.

Zn Induces Lipophagy via the Deacetylation of Beclin1 and Alleviates Cu-Induced Lipotoxicity at Their Environmentally Relevant Concentrations

Xiaolei Wei et al.

Summary: This study found that Zn activated lipophagy, alleviating Cu-induced lipid accumulation by promoting deacetylation of Beclin1. This previously unidentified mechanism sheds light on the antagonistic effects of Cu and Zn on metabolism at environmentally relevant concentrations. The importance of combined exposure and the role of Beclin1 deacetylation in promoting lipophagy were highlighted in understanding the biological effects of heavy metals during environmental risk assessments.

Th1/Th2 imbalance and heat shock protein mediated inflammatory damage triggered by manganese via activating NF-κB pathway in chicken nervous system in vivo and in vitro

Zhiying Miao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanism of inflammatory injury caused by excess manganese in the chicken nervous system. Excess manganese was found to induce inflammatory damage and inflammatory response, leading to Th1/Th2 imbalance and immunosuppression, with the involvement of heat shock proteins (HSPs) in mediating the manganese-induced inflammatory injury via the NF-kappa B pathway in chicken nervous system in vivo and in vitro.

Environmentally relevant concentrations of oxytetracycline and copper increased liver lipid deposition through inducing oxidative stress and mitochondria dysfunction in grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella

Yi-Huan Xu et al.

Summary: The study showed that the mixture of Cu and OTC had negative impacts on growth performance and feed utilization of fish, induced oxidative stress and damaged mitochondrial structure and functions. Nrf2 played an important role in regulating oxidative stress and lipid metabolism.

Effects of nonylphenol exposure on histological changes, apoptosis and time-course transcriptome in gills of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

Hui Guo et al.

Summary: Exposure to nonylphenol caused significant histological changes and apoptosis in Pacific white shrimp, resulting in the generation of numerous differentially expressed genes. The study demonstrated that nonylphenol exposure impairs the immune, antioxidant, DNA repair, and anti-apoptosis abilities of shrimp, leading to severe histopathological changes and eventual apoptosis.
