Regionalization of Seasonal Precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau and Associated Large-Scale Atmospheric Systems

Hui-Wen Lai et al.

Summary: By utilizing satellite data and meteorological observations, it was found that precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau exhibits distinct seasonal characteristics, with identified regimes of winter peak, early summer peak, and late summer peak that are influenced by large-scale circulation systems.

Deforestation-induced warming over tropical mountain regions regulated by elevation

Zhenzhong Zeng et al.

Summary: Deforestation in tropical mountain regions causes elevation-dependent warming, with the impact varying depending on altitude's role in albedo and evapotranspiration. The warming effect of deforestation decreases with higher elevation, affecting crop yields, land degradation, and nearby ecosystems, suggesting the need for future assessments to incorporate these additional impacts.

Effects of cumulus parameterization and land-surface hydrology schemes on Tibetan Plateau climate simulation during the wet season: insights from the RegCM4 model

Xuejia Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different cumulus parameterization schemes and land-surface hydrology schemes on Tibet Plateau climate simulation during the wet season using the RegCM4 model. The results showed that the Grell and TOP schemes better reproduced air temperature, while the MIT and VIC schemes performed best in terms of precipitation. The study also found that the CPS interacts with LSHS to affect the simulated climate over the TP.

The performance of CORDEX-EA-II simulations in simulating seasonal temperature and elevation-dependent warming over the Tibetan Plateau

Xiaorui Niu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the driving mechanisms of elevation-dependent warming (EDW) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) through a series of numerical experiments with different cumulus parameterization schemes (CPs). Results indicate that the spread in temperature simulations among the experiments is largely explained by the surface albedo feedback (SAF), with different CPs affecting the magnitude and structure of simulated EDW. Additionally, the inability of models to simulate EDW during spring is closely related to SAF and surface cloud radiative forcing (CRFs).

Elevation-Dependent Warming Over the Tibetan Plateau From an Ensemble of CORDEX-EA Regional Climate Simulations

Xiaorui Niu et al.

Summary: Under the CORDEX-EA-II framework, outputs from two RCMs driven by four GCMs were used to investigate elevation-dependent warming (EDW) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) under RCP8.5. Results showed significant disagreements in warming intensity and center among RCMs, with the largest spread found above 5,000 m. EDW signal was primarily influenced by surface albedo feedback (SAF) and the contribution of downward longwave radiation (DLW) varied among models. Additionally, RegCM4 showed higher sensitivity to anthropogenic greenhouse forcing compared to WRF, resulting in larger temperature projections and stronger EDW signal.

Evaluation of a climate simulation over the Yellow River Basin based on a regional climate model (REMO) within the CORDEX

Guojin Pang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the downscaled climate simulations over the Yellow River Basin using REMO and ERA-Interim reanalysis data. The results showed that REMO reproduced the spatial patterns of mean temperature satisfactorily, but had a wet bias in terms of precipitation. Observational data indicated significant warming trends across all four seasons, while REMO simulated weaker warming trends.
