Accumulation and characteristics of fluorescent dissolved organic matter in loess soil-based subsurface wastewater infiltration system with aeration and biochar addition

Wen Li et al.

Summary: The addition of biochar enhances denitrification in subsurface wastewater infiltration systems, but does not improve the accumulation of nitrogen and phosphorus in the substrate. It also affects the accumulation of organic matter in the substrate.

Insight into the heavy metal binding properties of dissolved organic matter in mine water affected by water-rock interaction of coal seam goaf

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used fluorescence and PARAFAC analysis to characterize the binding properties of DOM with Fe (III), Fe (II+III), and Mn (II) in mine water. Under rock-influenced conditions, protein-like components dominated. Clay minerals and iron-bearing minerals in rocks had significant effects on the binding characteristics of DOM and metal ions.

Parts per trillion detection of heavy metals in as-is tap water using carbon nanotube microelectrodes

Pankaj Gupta et al.

Summary: Heavy metal contamination in drinking water is a global issue exceeding WHO and EPA standards; a microelectrode with highly sensitize detection capabilities for heavy metals in tap water and simulated drinking water was developed to address this problem.

EEM-PARAFAC characterization of dissolved organic matter and its relationship with disinfection by-products formation potential in drinking water sources of northeastern China

Xiaotong Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the variations in Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the water of M reservoir over a year using fluorescence excitation-emission matrix parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) to evaluate the formation potentials of disinfection by-products (DBPs). Different components of DOM were identified in the reservoir water, with seasonal differences observed in DOM content. The study highlighted the impact of DOM source, types, and humification degree on the formation of DBPs, with specific correlations observed between certain DOM components and different DBPs.
