Carbon isotope seasonal characteristics of fine carbonaceous aerosol in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, China

Huiling Bai et al.

Summary: Stable carbon isotope signatures of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) in fine carbonaceous aerosols in Jinzhong, Shanxi Province were observed. The study showed variations in delta C-13 values of EC and OC in different seasons, with different contributions from vehicle exhaust and fossil fuel combustion. The research highlights the potential use of EC isotope signatures for source apportionment and the significant influence of atmospheric processing on OC isotope signatures.

Stable carbon isotopic compositions and source apportionment of the carbonaceous components in PM2.5 in Taiyuan, China

Xiaofeng Liu et al.

Summary: The study on the stable carbon isotopic compositions and source apportionment of carbonaceous components in Taiyuan found notable differences in the temporal distributions of stable carbon isotopic compositions of OC, EC, and TC. The heavier 613CEC values in December and March were attributed to increased coal combustion and C4 plant burning during the heating season. Results also showed different sources of EC in Taiyuan during the 4 months, indicating the comprehensive impact of various factors on carbonaceous components in fine particles. This study provides valuable data for environmental management and enhances understanding of carbon sources.

Source identification of PM2.5 carbonaceous aerosol using combined carbon fraction, radiocarbon and stable carbon isotope analyses in Debrecen, Hungary

Istvan Major et al.

Summary: This study analyzed PM2.5 aerosol samples collected in Debrecen, Hungary from 2011 to 2014, finding that combustion processes dominated in winter with wood fuels prevailing. Additionally, enriched ΔC-13 values in October were likely caused by long-range transport of particles from agricultural combustion of C-4 plants.
