s-Wave Paired Electron and Hole Composite Fermion Trial State for Quantum Hall Bilayers with ν=1

Glenn Wagner et al.

Summary: A new variational wave function is introduced for a quantum Hall bilayer at total filling vT = 1, based on s-wave BCS pairing between electron composite fermions in one layer and hole composite fermions in the other. The overlap of the optimized trial functions with the ground state from exact diagonalization calculations shows excellent agreement across the range of layer separation and magnetic length ratio, providing important insights into the physics at different interlayer separations.

Gate-controlled BCS-BEC crossover in a two-dimensional superconductor

Yuji Nakagawa et al.

Summary: The study reports the crossover from the BCS limit to the BEC limit in a two-dimensional superconductor by varying carrier density. The phase diagram, established by simultaneous measurements of resistivity and tunneling spectra, shows a pseudogap phase in the low-doping regime. Results indicate that gate-doped semiconductor provides an ideal platform for the BCS-BEC crossover in two dimensions.
