Resprouting drives successional pathways and the resilience of Caatinga dry forest in human-modified landscapes

Maria Fabiola Barros et al.

Summary: The study found that Caatinga dry forest on sandy soils is particularly resilient, with resprouting being the predominant regeneration mechanism. Regenerating forests were similar to old-growth forests in terms of taxonomic and functional composition, and functional and phylogenetic diversity. Community-level plant diversity measures were not related to forest age or soil properties.

Summary: Despite criticisms, the three metrics of species diversity are still widely used in ecology. In the past decade, ecologists have started incorporating new tools such as coverage and Hill diversity to estimate diversity more effectively.
