The clinical characterization of the patient with primary psychosis aimed at personalization of management

Mario Maj et al.

Summary: The current management of patients with primary psychosis lacks personalization, tends to be stereotyped, lacks the application of cognitive behavioral therapy, lacks research-based support for psychosocial interventions, has limited implementation of family interventions and supported employment programs, acknowledges the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus in patients but falls short in implementing appropriate measures, and while clinicians endorse personalization, it is lacking in most clinical contexts.

An organization- and category-level comparison of diagnostic requirements for mental disorders in ICD-11 and DSM-5

Michael B. First et al.

Summary: While the organization of ICD-11 and DSM-5 in mental disorder classification is substantially similar, there are significant differences, including certain disorder categories exclusive to each system. Out of 103 diagnostic entities appearing in both ICD-11 and DSM-5, 20 were rated as having major differences, indicating divergent interpretations and uses of evidence. The efforts towards harmonization have resulted in closer alignment between ICD and DSM, but differences remain based on priorities and interpretations, enabling empirical comparisons and advancements in the field.

Factors Associated With Real-Life Functioning in Persons With Schizophrenia in a 4-Year Follow-up Study of the Italian Network for Research on Psychoses

Armida Mucci et al.

Summary: The study suggests that factors such as neurocognition, social cognition, and baseline everyday life skills are associated with real-life functioning in patients with schizophrenia. These associations support the adoption of personalized psychosocial interventions and cognitive training programs to promote independent living for patients.

Resolving heterogeneity in schizophrenia through a novel systems approach to brain structure: individualized structural covariance network analysis

Zhaowen Liu et al.

Summary: Reliable mapping of system-level individual differences is crucial for precision medicine in complex disorders like schizophrenia. Using a Network Template Perturbation approach, this study investigated structural covariance alterations in schizophrenia patients, identifying distinct subgroups with significant changes in covariance edges and implications for disease classification and clinical treatment.

Interindividual variability of functional connectome in schizophrenia

Aniol Santo-Angles et al.

Summary: Schizophrenia displays significant interindividual variability in functional connectome, with higher heterogeneity in patients' connectivity across the cortex, especially in frontoparietal and default mode networks. This variability is associated with clinical symptom severity and brain network topological properties, suggesting an overrepresentation of patients with lower functional integration and more severe symptoms in the average functional connectome. Patients with severe symptoms also show decreased connectivity at whole-brain level and within the salience network, while those with higher negative symptoms exhibit deficits in large-scale functional integration.
