Attentional bias toward negative and positive pictorial stimuli and its relationship with distorted cognitions, empathy, and moral reasoning among men with intellectual disabilities who have committed crimes

Susan A. Sadek et al.

Summary: The study found that men with intellectual disabilities and a history of criminal offending show a significant attentional bias toward affective pictorial stimuli, endorse more offense-supportive cognitions, have lower empathy, and exhibit more mature moral reasoning. The attentional bias significantly predicted offense-supportive cognitions, suggesting interventions to modify attention bias in this population should be explored further.
