A Comparative Study of 22G versus 19G Needles for EUS-Guided Biopsies for Parenchymal Liver Disease: Are Thinner Needles Better?

Harsh K. Patel et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of a novel 22G Franseen-tip fine-needle biopsy device with 19G needle platforms for liver parenchyma biopsy. The results showed that the 22G Franseen-tip needle obtained more tissue fragments but had inferior specimen adequacy compared to 19G non-Tru-Cut needles.

Comparison of Two Specialized Histology Needles for Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)-Guided Liver Biopsy: A Pilot Study

Rintaro Hashimoto et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of two second-generation 19G fine-needle biopsy devices for EUS-guided liver biopsy. The Franseen-tip needle group showed higher number of complete portal tracts compared to the Fork-tip needle group. Both needles demonstrated high histologic adequacy, with the right lobe of the liver yielding higher CPTs. The use of the 19G Franseen-tip needle may provide more CPTs than the 19G Fork-tip needle on a single-pass, single-actuation comparison.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of a single-pass, single-actuation, wet suction technique with 19 G and 22 G needles in EUS-LB, revealing that the 19 G needle provided longer core length and more complete portal tracts, resulting in superior sample adequacy and diagnostic pathology quality compared to the 22 G needle.

Comparative Study of an Ultrasound-guided Percutaneous Biopsy and Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided Fine-needle Aspiration for Liver Tumors

Yuichi Takano et al.

Summary: Both percutaneous biopsy and EUS-FNA show equivalent diagnostic qualities for liver tumors, although EUS-FNA tends to be associated with fewer adverse events. A complete understanding of the characteristics of each procedure is essential when choosing the best biopsy method for each particular case.

Summary: This study compared percutaneous and endoscopic ultrasound methods for liver biopsy, with results showing that although percutaneous liver biopsy yielded specimens with greater total sample length, the diagnostic adequacy and accuracy were similar between the two procedures.
