Surface tension of liquid mixtures and metal alloys. Thermodynamic conditions for the occurrence of a positive temperature coefficient

M. Soledade C. S. Santos et al.

Summary: This study addresses the atypical increase of surface tension in liquid alloys with temperature using Butler's thermodynamic model. A rigorous expression for the temperature coefficient of surface tension is established, predicting positive temperature coefficients in specific conditions. The proposed method is applied to various alloys with acceptable agreement between theoretical and experimental values, suggesting the ability to predict the temperature coefficient beforehand.

Resistivity of Fe-Mn-C Melts

N. I. Sinitsin et al.

Summary: The resistivity of liquid Fe-Mn-C alloys with varying manganese and carbon contents was measured using the rotating magnetic field method. It was found that the resistivity during heating was lower than during subsequent cooling, with some alloys showing anomalies in the temperature dependence of resistivity during heating between 1550-1680°C. The addition of manganese and carbon was shown to influence the resistivity and temperature coefficient of the melts.
