Preliminary Archeological Site Survey by UAV-Borne Lidar: A Case Study

Marco Balsi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a case study of using remote sensing with a LiDAR sensor carried by a UAV for detailed topographic survey at archaeological sites. Expert operators searched for prehistoric hypogea entrances in the high-resolution digital terrain model obtained from the ground-labeled point cloud. The study demonstrates the utility of this technique in revealing hidden anthropogenic structures and quickly documenting ground surface topography.

High-speed airborne single-photon LiDAR with GHz-gated single-photon detector at 1550 nm

Guangyue Shen et al.

Summary: A high-speed airborne single-photon counting LiDAR operating at 1550 nm was developed, achieving a point cloud rate of 1.4 x 106 points per second with a 1-MHz repetition rate pulsed laser. The LiDAR utilized a quasi-continuous Geigermode single-photon detector, and a processing algorithm based on the difference of signal and noise in density distribution was proposed to distill the three-dimensional information of the targets, demonstrating its suitability for terrain mapping and three-dimensional city modeling.

MATRIX16: A 16-Channel Low-Power TDC ASIC with 8 ps Time Resolution

Joan Mauricio et al.

Summary: This paper presents a highly configurable 16-channel TDC ASIC with features such as time-of-flight and time-over-threshold measurements. The novel design of clock interpolation circuitry and the capability to operate at different supply voltages and frequencies offer a compromise between resolution and power consumption.

Summary: This paper presents a novel FPGA-based instrument for TCPC, utilizing newer single photon detector technologies for faster measurements. The concept of TCPC and its advantages over TCSPC are introduced, along with the system design and performance. A real-time hardware solution for time correlations is demonstrated with an accuracy of 42ps RMS.
