Enhanced Dielectric Screening and Photoluminescence from Nanopillar-Strained MoS2 Nanosheets: Implications for Strain Funneling in Optoelectronic Applications

Mounika Vutukuru et al.

Summary: Nonuniform strain on multilayer transition-metal dichalcogenide nanosheets can dramatically enhance photoluminescence by causing charge and exciton funneling to strain apex, reducing exciton binding energy and renormalizing the band gap, leading to dissociation of bound excitons into free electron-hole pairs, demonstrating the potential for effective manipulation of light-matter interaction in these atomically thin materials for strain-engineered optoelectronics.

A light-induced phononic symmetry switch and giant dissipationless topological photocurrent in ZrTe5

Liang Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, dissipationless currents were generated in a centrosymmetric Dirac material ZrTe5 using laser-induced coherent phonons with broken inversion symmetry. The phononic terahertz symmetry switching led to the formation of Weyl points, resulting in a topological photocurrent with distinctive features such as Berry curvature dominance and chirality protection, enabling exceptional ballistic transport properties. The results suggest that phononic terahertz control offers a novel approach for coherent manipulation of Weyl nodes and robust quantum transport without the need for static electric or magnetic fields.

Light quantum control of persisting Higgs modes in iron-based superconductors

C. Vaswani et al.

Summary: The study identifies a hybrid Higgs mode in iron-based high-temperature superconductors and demonstrates its quantum control by light. The tunable coherent oscillation of the complex order parameter in these superconductors suggests the appearance and control of the Higgs mode through light tuning of interband interaction.

Terahertz Nano-Imaging of Electronic Strip Heterogeneity in a Dirac Semimetal

Richard H. J. Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, non-invasive and contactless conductivity mapping was performed at the THz-nm limit in the Dirac material ZrTe5, revealing a clear Dirac Fermion density transition and variable junction width. The unique THz-nm contrast observed in the study is absent in mid-infrared nano-imaging measurements, highlighting the potential of topological semimetals with small Fermi pockets in the THz spectral region. Additionally, first-principles calculations suggest that conductivity nanocontrast can be induced by a small anisotropic strain in ZrTe5, leading to nanoscale topological phase transitions at junctions.

High-temperature superfluorescence in methyl ammonium lead iodide

Gamze Findik et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that the hybrid perovskite MAPbI3 thin film exhibits superfluorescence at temperatures of 78 K and above, demonstrating the potential for collective coherent quantum many-body phases to be used as basic building blocks for quantum applications. By studying the excitation fluence dependence of the spectroscopic features and the population kinetics, all the well-known characteristics of superfluorescence were confirmed in these films.
