Contribution of landfill fires to air pollution - An assessment methodology

Jan Stefan Bihalowicz et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of waste fires on air pollution, evaluating the emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. The findings show significant contributions to air pollution and potential health risks for the exposed population. Data on spatial distribution and emission factors were used to predict the total emissions from large waste fires.

Emissions of intermediate-volatility and semi-volatile organic compounds from domestic fuels used in Delhi, India

Gareth J. Stewart et al.

Summary: Biomass burning emits a complex mixture of intermediate-volatility and semi-volatile organic compounds (I/SVOCs), which are more toxic and less understood than typical volatile organic compounds in ambient air. A new analytical method successfully detected over 3000 peaks of I/SVOC species with unique mass spectra. Gas- and particle-phase emission factors for 21 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were derived to study the impact of different solid fuels combustion emissions.
