Two new metal organic frameworks, namely {[Cu(AA)(bpa)(0.5)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) and {[Cu-2(PA)(2)(bpa)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (2) [AA = adipic acid; PA = pimelic acid; bpa = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl) ethane] have been prepared through the solvent diffusion technique, and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 displays a three-dimensional (3D) framework simplified by a (6)-connected uninodal net with rob topology, while 2 exhibits two-dimensional (2D) network with sql/Shubnikov tetragonal plane net topology, having (4)-connected uninodal net. The N-2 and H-2 adsorption isotherm of 1-2 indicates typical Type-I sorption behaviour at 77 K. The magnetic properties of 1-2 have also been determined, and showed the antiferromagnetic coupling between the Cu(II) metal centres. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
