Melatonin provides protection against cisplatin-induced ovarian damage and loss of fertility in mice

Jia Huang et al.

Summary: The study showed that melatonin enhanced the anti-cancer effect of cisplatin in tumour-bearing nude mice and reduced ovarian toxicity while preserving fertility in cisplatin-treated female mice. Melatonin was able to reduce DNA damage and lipid peroxidation in the ovaries caused by cisplatin, as well as restore lipid peroxidation in granulosa cells to prevent follicle depletion.

Involvement of PTEN and FOXO3a Proteins in the Protective Activity of Protocatechuic Acid Against Cisplatin-Induced Ovarian Toxicity in Mice

Bruna Bortoloni Gouveia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that pre-treatment with N-acetylcysteine or 20 mg/kg PCA before cisplatin administration in mice can protect normal follicles and cell proliferation, reduce apoptosis and ROS levels, and enhance mitochondrial function and GSH levels. Additionally, pre-treatment with 20 mg/kg PCA decreased cisplatin-induced p-PTEN levels and promoted nuclear export of p-FOXO3a.
