Changes in Ghrelin and Glucagon following a Low Glycemic Load Diet in Women with PCOS

Sarah E. Hoover et al.

Summary: The study suggests that in women with PCOS who have adapted to a low GL diet, a low GL meal can reduce ghrelin and increase glucagon. Further research is needed to determine the influence of diet composition on ad libitum intake in women with PCOS.

LncRNA HOTAIRM1, miR-433-5p and PIK3CD function as a ceRNA network to exacerbate the development of PCOS

Hongmin Guo et al.

Summary: In patients with PCOS, the expression of HOTAIRM1 and PIK3CD is upregulated, while miR-433-5p is downregulated. HOTAIRM1 promotes the expression of PIK3CD, affecting the proliferation and apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells. miR-433-5p interacts with PIK3CD, modulating the function of granulosa cells.

Summary: Transcriptome profiling has emerged as a powerful approach in oncology, providing prognostic and predictive utility for cancer management. It enables the identification of cancer biomarkers, gene signatures, and molecular targets for anticancer therapies, contributing to a change in the holistic understanding of cancer from histopathological to molecular classifications. Further advancements in transcriptome profiling may lead to standardization and cost reduction of its analysis, making it a canon of contemporary cancer medicine.

Summary: The study identified 54 miRNAs with significantly different levels between PCOS patients and normal controls, among which hsa-miR-1299, hsa-miR-6818-5p, hsa-miR-1925p, and hsa-miR-145-5p were identified as potential biomarkers for PCOS. Further GO and KEGG pathway analyses helped explore the potential implications of these miRNAs in PCOS.

An Overview of Systematic Reviews of Using Chinese Medicine to Treat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Linjing Wang et al.

Summary: This review evaluates the strength and validity of existing evidence for using Chinese medicine in treating PCOS. While Chinese medicine showed improvement in symptoms compared to control groups, the reliability of most outcome measures was low, possibly due to poor quality RCTs. Additional multicenter, large-sample RCTs with standard designs and rigorous methods are recommended to improve the quality of clinical evidence.

Markers of gastrointestinal permeability and dysbiosis in premenopausal women with PCOS: a case-control study

Shilpa Lingaiah et al.

Summary: The study found that intestinal permeability markers zonulin and FABP2, and the dysbiosis marker indican do not seem to be altered in women with PCOS at age 46 compared with BMI-matched controls. Serum zonulin levels correlated with BMI, insulin resistance, and inflammatory marker levels, but did not segregate women with PCOS and controls. This suggests that metabolic factors, but not PCOS per se, is the driving force of dysbiosis in premenopausal women with PCOS.

Differential Lipidomic Characteristics of Children Born to Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Zhirong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study described lipidomic characteristics of offspring born to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women (PCOS-off) and identified significant alterations in lipid profiles, especially among girls (PCOS-g) and boys (PCOS-b) born to PCOS women. Abnormal lipid levels in PCOS-off indicated risks for glucose metabolism and cardiovascular diseases. Some lipids, such as phosphatidylcholines, lysophosphatidylcholine, and sphingomyelin, may serve as potential markers in this population.
