Catalytic co-pyrolysis of microwave pretreated chili straw and polypropylene to produce hydrocarbons-rich bio-oil

Xikui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the kinetic behavior and products of the co-pyrolysis of chili straw and polypropylene under different conditions. Results showed that adding HZSM-5 increased the aromatic hydrocarbons in the product and decreased the residual mass, while microwave pretreatment at higher power levels reduced oxygenated composition and increased weight loss rate peak, with a decrease in activation energy.

Directional valorization of eucalyptus waste into value-added chemicals by a novel two-staged controllable pyrolysis process

Anqing Zheng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel two-staged controllable pyrolysis process for directional valorization of eucalyptus waste, achieving high yields of anhydrosugars and xylosan while inhibiting lignin degradation and the formation of non-condensable gas. The process involves torrefaction of H2SO4-impregnated eucalyptus waste followed by fast pyrolysis, providing a simple and efficient strategy for converting holocellulose and lignin in biomass waste into value-added chemicals.

Catalytic Fast Pyrolysis of Biomass: Catalyst Characterization Reveals the Feed-Dependent Deactivation of a Technical ZSM-5-Based Catalyst

Beatriz Luna-Murillo et al.

Summary: The study reveals that catalyst deactivation due to coking leads to a significant drop in catalytic activity with increasing time, mainly attributed to the decrease in acidity and surface area. Furthermore, the structure of the extruded catalyst particles is affected, impacting various indicators including aromatic yield.

Catalytic pyrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose extracted from rice straw for high yield of hydrocarbon over alkali modified ZSM-5

Nishu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis behavior of microcrystalline cellulose extracted from rice straw, and the modification of ZSM-5 with different molar concentrations of NaOH solution. Results showed that alkali treatment promoted the production of aromatics and olefins, with changes in activation energy values.

Hydrodeoxygenation of guiacol over ion-exchanged ruthenium ZSM-5 and BEA zeolites

Penghui Yan et al.

Summary: Ion-exchanged Ru/ZSM-5 and Ru/BEA catalysts show high intrinsic HDO activity with finely dispersed metal particles interacting strongly with oxygen atoms. High H2 adsorption activity facilitates hydrogenation reaction, while acid sites play a pivotal role in deoxygenation reaction.

Pyrolysis behaviour, kinetics and thermodynamic data of hydrothermal carbonization-Treated pulp and paper mill sludge

Shule Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the hydrothermal carbonization of paper mill sludge (PPMS) resulted in a higher average activation energy for pyrolysis, and the concentration of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the organic liquid fraction increased with the pyrolysis temperature. The highest yield and highest heating value of the organic liquid fraction were achieved at 550 degrees Celsius, and the pyrolytic chars showed potential for use as a carbon sink.

Catalytic co-pyrolysis of torrefied poplar wood and high-density polyethylene over hierarchical HZSM-5 for mono-aromatics production

Xiaona Lin et al.

Summary: The catalytic co-pyrolysis of torrefied poplar wood sawdust and high-density polyethylene was studied over hierarchical HZSM-5. Increasing torrefaction temperature improved the production of phenols and alkenes in the bio-oil. Hierarchical HZSM-5 treated with alkaline concentration favored the formation of mono aromatics over polyaromatics, leading to efficient production of valuable mono-aromatic hydrocarbons from biomass and plastic wastes.

Fe/HZSM-5 catalytic pyrolysis cellulose as hydrogen donor for the upgrading of heavy crude oil by one-pot process

Jingjing Li et al.

Summary: The study explored the hydrogen supply effect of catalytic pyrolysis of cellulose in combination with a heavy crude oil upgrading system. Fe/HZSM-5 was found to increase cellulose pyrolysis, resulting in a higher bio-oil yield and improved heavy crude oil upgrading efficiency and quality. Various potential components were identified as hydrogen donors, leading to significant improvements in the heavy crude oil quality.
