A complete energetic and exergetic analysis of a solar powered trigeneration system with two novel organic Rankine cycle (ORC) configurations

Shirko Jafary et al.

Summary: This study compares two solar powered trigeneration systems from energetic and exergetic viewpoints. The system with ORC-IHE configuration demonstrated higher energy and exergy efficiency compared to the RORC configuration, with energy efficiencies of 93.35% and 86.66%, and exergy efficiencies of 12.69% and 6.641%, respectively.

Design and thermoeconomic analysis of a solar parabolic trough - ORC - Biomass cooling plant for a commercial center

Eduardo A. Pina et al.

Summary: Hybrid renewable polygeneration systems, such as the solar-biomass ORC-based system in this study, are seen as key solutions for sustainable energy supply in buildings. The designed system aims to meet electricity and cooling demands of a commercial center in Zaragoza, Spain, but is currently not economically viable due to high production costs compared to purchasing electricity from the grid. However, the system shows significant environmental benefits by reducing CO2 emissions and nonrenewable energy consumption.

Experimental investigation of an organic Rankine cycle with liquid-flooded expansion and R1233zd(E) as working fluid

Xiaoya Li et al.

Summary: The study introduced the potential of liquid-flooded expansion technology in enhancing the performance of the basic ORC, with experiments showing improved expander power output and isothermal efficiency. Increasing the amount of liquid flooding can further enhance the power output and thermal efficiency of the system, suggesting the potential for performance improvement by modifying the cycle thermodynamics itself.
