Production of renewable aromatics from jatropha oil over multifunctional ZnCo/ZSM-5 catalysts

Omvir Singh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the transformation of jatropha oil into aromatics using bimetallic ZSM-5 catalyst in a continuous downflow reactor. The addition of Ce as a promoter was found to enhance dehydrodeoxygenation reaction and aromatic selectivity. The optimized catalyst 10Zn5Co5Ce/Z showed high conversion and aromatic selectivity with negligible coke deposition.

Dehydration of carbohydrates into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural over vanadyl pyrophosphate catalysts

Jaleh Najafi Sarpiri et al.

Summary: The catalytic activity of vanadyl pyrophosphate (VPP) catalysts supported on mesoporous silica KIT-6 for glucose and fructose dehydration into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) was investigated, and the catalyst with the lowest VPP loading exhibited the best activity. Various parameters such as VPP loading amount, initial amount of carbohydrates and catalyst, and reaction conditions were found to have an impact on the catalytic activity.

Selective fructose dehydration to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from a fructose-glucose mixture over a sulfuric acid catalyst in a biphasic system: Experimental study and kinetic modelling

Wenze Guo et al.

Summary: This research successfully demonstrated a two-step process of converting glucose to fructose followed by dehydration to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), with insights into the excess formation of formic acid in the process. By optimizing the conditions based on the developed kinetic model, the synthesis of HMF was efficiently achieved in microreactors, showing potential for process intensification and scale-up.
