A promoted photocatalysis system trade-off between thermodynamic and kinetic via hierarchical distribution dual-defects for efficient H2 evolution

Jiaqi Gao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a strategy of constructing dual-defects in hierarchically modified black TiO2 nanotube array to enhance photocatalytic activity. The coexistence of dual-defects reduces band-gap, preserves thermodynamic capabilities, and forms a built-in electric field for efficient charge transfer. The broadening of light absorption and acceleration of photogenerated charge transfer induced by correct concentration and distribution of dual-defects realize the tradeoff between thermodynamic and kinetic factors.

CH3OH selective oxidation to HCHO on Z-scheme Fe2O3/g-C3N4 hybrid: The rate-determining step of C-H bond scission

Sheng Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a direct Z-scheme system (ZOF@CN NTs) consisting of 1D nanotubes oxygen-deficient alpha-Fe2O3 and g-C3N4, which shows a significantly enhanced activity and selectivity for PEC CH3OH oxidation to HCHO. The mechanism of CH3OH oxidation to HCHO on the Z-scheme ZOF@CN NTs photoanode involves key steps such as O-H bond scission and C-H bond scission, with N atoms from g-C3N4 playing a crucial role due to their higher electronegativity compared to O atoms. This work provides a solid foundation for understanding Fe2O3-based Z-scheme system photoanodes for CH3OH oxidation to HCHO.

Enhanced Photoelectrocatalytic Activities for CH3OH-to-HCHO Conversion on Fe2O3/MoO3: Fe-O-Mo Covalency Dominates the Intrinsic Activity

Sheng Huang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the application of a Fe2O3/MoO3 heterojunction in the photoelectrocatalytic conversion of small-molecule alcohols, enhancing the optical carrier transfer rate and optimizing selectivity by constructing interfacial internal electric fields and charge transfer channels. FeMo-2 showed significantly improved performance compared to single Fe2O3, indicating a significant advantage in selectivity and reactivity for HCHO.

Construction of CdSe polymorphic junctions with coherent interface for enhanced photoelectrocatalytic hydrogen generation

Qianqian Shen et al.

Summary: CdSe with high densities of coherent polymorphic ZB/WZ interfaces were deposited on TiO2 NRAs by electrodeposition and an optimized annealing process. The formation of ZB/WZ coherent polymorphic junctions enhanced the separation and transport of photo-generated electron-hole pairs in CdSe, leading to the CdSe/TiO2 photoanode producing H-2 at a rate of 260.9 mu mol cm(-2) h(-1) under AM 1.5 G. This highlights the important role of coherent polymorphic junctions in enhancing the performance of CdSe-based photoanodes.

The enhanced visible light driven photocatalytic inactivation of Escherichia coli with Z-Scheme Bi2O3/Bi2MoO6 heterojunction and mechanism insight

Huanxian Shi et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic technology, particularly using the Z-scheme Bi2O3/Bi2MoO6 heterojunction, has shown promising results in effectively inactivating pathogenic microorganisms such as E. coli under visible light stimulation. The higher spatial separation efficiency of photoexcited electron-hole pairs and improved visible light absorption ability in the BO/BMO heterojunctions contribute to their enhanced photocatalytic performance. This research provides a potential avenue for the development of novel Bi2MoO6-based photocatalysts for pathogenic microorganisms removal.

Self-Doping Surface Oxygen Vacancy-Induced Lattice Strains for Enhancing Visible Light-Driven Photocatalytic H2 Evolution over Black TiO2

Jiaqi Gao et al.

Summary: The synergistic effect of surface oxygen vacancy and induced lattice strains on black TiO2 can significantly enhance the photocatalytic H-2 evolution under visible light. The presence of surface oxygen vacancies leads to the formation of a high-energy surface, which improves visible light absorption and enhances the photoinduced charge separation efficiency. Additionally, the induced lattice strains provide a driving force for the directional movement of photoinduced electrons from the bulk to the high-energy surface, resulting in a 12-fold increase in the hydrogen evolution rate.

Forsterite-hydroxyapatite composite scaffolds with photothermal antibacterial activity for bone repair

Weiye Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method to deposit hydroxyapatite coating on polymer-derived forsterite scaffolds through hydrothermal treatment, achieving photothermal-induced antibacterial ability and bioactivity. The hydroxyapatite coating did not affect the mechanical strength and photothermal effect of the scaffolds, but promoted the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat bone mesenchymal stem cells on the scaffolds.

Preparation and Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation of Hematite Nanobelts Containing Highly Ordered Oxygen Vacancies

Zhang Wenjin et al.

Summary: Researchers developed hematite nanobelts containing ordered oxygen vacancies for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting. The enhanced performance is attributed to the introduced ordered oxygen vacancies, which can increase the carrier density and accelerate surface holes transfer, acting as active sites to promote the surface water oxidation reaction.
