Noncontrast MRI for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Detection: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis - A Potential Surveillance Tool?

Michael Vinchill Chan et al.

Summary: Non-contrast MRI shows moderate negative LR and high specificity for HCC detection, with acceptable sensitivity even in patients with cirrhosis and lesions <2cm. Prospective trials are needed to validate its use for HCC surveillance.

LI-RADS to categorize liver nodules in patients at risk of HCC: tool or a gadget in daily practice?

Matteo Barabino et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of LI-RADS in diagnosing suspected HCC through preoperative imaging, with MRI being the preferred modality for diagnosing highly probable and certain HCC. Application of LI-RADS, especially on MRI, may offer a more accurate evaluation of suspected HCC.

Association of hepatic steatosis with epicardial fat volume and coronary artery disease in symptomatic patients

Roberta Eufrasia Ledda et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between excessive epicardial adipose tissue and coronary artery disease (CAD) in individuals with symptoms suggestive of cardiovascular disease. The findings showed that higher epicardial fat volume (EFV) was associated with CAD, and mean luminal diameter (MLD) could discriminate symptomatic patients with CAD.

Gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI for differentiating hepatic sclerosing hemangioma from malignant tumor

Yeun-Yoon Kim et al.

Summary: Multivariable analysis identified irregular margins, centripetal or internal nodular enhancement in the transitional phase, and absence of diffusion restriction as significant MRI features for diagnosing hepatic sclerosing hemangioma. When at least two significant imaging features were present, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for diagnosing sclerosing hemangioma were high.

Standardization of conventional chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma

Matteo Renzulli et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the chemical and physical characteristics of emulsions for cTACE and assessed intra-and inter-operator variabilities in the preparation processes. The results showed that droplet diameter changed with the number of pumping exchanges and over time, but returned to initial sizes after remixing. The study suggests that any interventional radiologist can prepare these emulsions, regardless of experience, and these data may provide guidelines for standardizing cTACE procedures.

Advanced CT techniques for assessing hepatocellular carcinoma

Yuko Nakamura et al.

Summary: This review examines the use of advanced imaging techniques such as dual-energy CT, perfusion CT, and artificial intelligence for the precise characterization of liver tumors, treatment response quantification, and overall survival rate prediction in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The advantages and disadvantages of conventional hepatic dynamic CT imaging are discussed, along with the clinical applications and limitations of dual-energy and perfusion CT in the context of HCC. Additionally, the utility of artificial intelligence-based methods for diagnosing HCC is explored.

Diagnostic value of morphological enhancement patterns in the hepatobiliary phase of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI to distinguish focal nodular hyperplasia from hepatocellular adenoma

Carlos Bilreiro et al.

Summary: Different morphological enhancement patterns of FNH and HCA in the HBP of Gd-EOB-DTPA MRI were described and their added value in differential diagnosis was determined. Peripheral ring-like enhancement with hypointense or hyperintense central core was highly specific for FNH diagnosis, while the absence of HBP enhancement made the diagnosis of FNH unlikely.

Evaluation of liver function in patients with chronic hepatitis B using Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced T1 mapping at different acquisition time points: a feasibility study

Jiamin Li et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the impact of different acquisition times on the evaluation of liver function levels in chronic hepatitis B using Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced T1 mapping technology. The results showed that postT1 gradually decreased, while Delta T1 and Delta R1 gradually increased with time, and that 10 minutes after enhancement may be the best time point for assessment of liver function.
