Trimmed Constrained Mixed Effects Models: Formulations and Algorithms

Peng Zheng et al.

Summary: Mixed effects (ME) models are widely used in the physical and social sciences, as well as in meta-analysis. This article introduces an efficient approach for ME models with linear random effects component to handle nonlinear measurements, priors, and constraints, providing robust estimates through trimming in the associated marginal likelihood. The open-source Python package LimeTr is able to recover results more accurately and efficiently, showing advanced functionality and robust extensions in analyses of global health data.

Challenges for Estimating the Global Prevalence of Micronutrient Deficiencies and Related Disease Burden: A Case Study of the Global Burden of Disease Study

Sonja Y. Hess et al.

Summary: Assessing the global prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies requires valid biomarkers and representative survey data, which are often lacking. Current estimates rely on complex statistical modeling using assumptions and proxies, potentially underestimating the extent of deficiencies and global health burden.

Increasing the availability and utilization of reliable data on population micronutrient (MN) status globally: the MN Date Generation Initiative

Kenneth H. Brown et al.

Summary: Micronutrient deficiencies can have negative impacts on health and functionality, especially among children and women in low- and middle-income countries. The lack of information is due to limited understanding of the importance of micronutrients by policymakers, high costs and logistical constraints involved in data collection and analysis, and inadequate professional capacity for implementing related surveys.
