LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AMONG RESPONDENTS: IMPLICATIONS FOR DATA QUALITY

Alexander Wenz et al.

Summary: The study found that in English interviews, non-native speakers may provide lower quality survey data, including higher nonresponse rates, more likely to change responses across waves, more likely to choose the primary response option, and exhibit straightlining behavior in grids. However, there were no significant effects found with regard to don't know responding between native and non-native speakers.
