A Square-Root Second-Order Extended Kalman Filtering Approach for Estimating Smoothly Time-Varying Parameters

Zachary F. Fisher et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a statistical model for estimating smoothly time-varying parameters, which can be applied to study psychological processes and the impact of interventions on individual behavior. The experimental results demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed algorithm in estimating unobserved states, and illustrate the effectiveness of the method in characterizing the time-varying effect of interventions on emotional experiences.

A Person- and Time-Varying Vector Autoregressive Model to Capture Interactive Infant-Mother Head Movement Dynamics

Meng Chen et al.

Summary: Head movement plays an important role in emotion and social interaction, yet it is often overlooked. This study investigated the dynamics of head movements in infant-mother dyads during the Face-Face/Still-Face Procedure, revealing variations in dynamics over time and across episodes, which were also associated with infants' subsequent attachment security. The implementation of time-varying vector-autoregressive models using two R packages provided insights into these dynamics.
