Mixed urushiol and laccol compositions in natural lacquers: Convenient evaluation method and its effect on the physicochemical properties of lacquer coatings

Hanna Lee et al.

Summary: The evaluation of catechol lipid compositions in natural lacquer materials is crucial for understanding the physicochemical properties of lacquer films. Utilizing Fourier transform infrared analysis, this study proposes a convenient method for assessing the relative composition of urushiol and laccol in natural lacquers. The study shows that an increase in laccol content in lacquer films leads to improved transparency and reduced mechanical hardness.
