This study reviews the progress in research of CdZnTe based room temperature nuclear radiation detection and spectroscopy, evaluating the physical and electronic properties of modern detectors, comparing different growth methods, geometries, and detection platforms, and presenting the results of performance evaluation.
CdZnTe (CZT) has attracted a lot of attention for room temperature radiation detection by fulfilling a number of diverse and stringent requirements owing to its advantages over traditional semiconductor materials. This study reviews the progress in research of CZT based room temperature nuclear radiation detection and spectroscopy by a comprehensive survey. We evaluate both physical and electronic properties of modern detectors, compare different growth methods, geometries, and detection platforms, and we present the results of their performance evaluation to give an overview of the advancement in CdZnTe detector technology for nuclear power plant application in the last decade.
