Extended Producer Responsibility for Pharmaceuticals

Isil Alev et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effectiveness of different extended producer responsibility (EPR) implementation models for pharmaceuticals, focusing on source reduction (SR) and end-of-pipe control (EC) models. Results show that the EC model can lead to higher total welfare in certain cases due to its effectiveness in eliminating overprescription. The study also reveals conditions where stakeholder preferences towards EPR implementation models are (mis-)aligned.
