Towards high-quality biodiesel production from microalgae using original and anaerobically-digested livestock wastewater

Gang Li et al.

Summary: This study focused on the simultaneous treatment of livestock wastewater and high-quality biodiesel production using microalgae technology. Higher microalgal biomass production was observed in the original piggery effluent medium, while microalgae grown in anaerobically-digested effluent had a higher lipid content, which is favorable for biodiesel production. The N/P ratio in the original effluent was closer to the optimal ratio for microalgae growth compared to the anaerobically-digested effluent, indicating potential for sustainable livestock waste management.

Near-field spray characterization of a spill return atomizer using a PIV laser sheet

H. A. Moneib et al.

Summary: The experimental study focused on the spray characteristics and evaporation rates of conventional diesel fuel, renewable waste cooking oil, and a blend of the two under different air to liquid ratios. The results showed that diesel fuel had the highest evaporation rate, while waste cooking oil exhibited difficulties in interacting with surrounding air due to its high viscosity and larger droplets size.
