Exact closed-form and asymptotic expressions for the electrostatic force between two conducting spheres

Summary: The study investigates the exact closed-form expressions and complete asymptotic expansions for the electrostatic force between two charged conducting spheres, showing that even like-charged spheres attract each other at small distances. It is also found that for sufficiently large size asymmetries and constant voltages or charges, the repulsion between spheres increases as they separate from contact. Furthermore, in the constant voltage case, the like-voltage repulsion can be optimized through lowering the voltage on the larger sphere at an optimal separation distance.
