Electrostatic Jumping of Frost

Summary: The study investigates the electrification of ice and reveals the surprising phenomenon of jumping frost dendrites. Through experimental observation and analytical and numerical modeling, the attractive force between frost dendrites and liquid was estimated, providing insights into charge separation in ice growth. The unexpected jumping frost event could serve as a model system for resolving long-standing questions in atmospheric physics and has potential applications in deicing technology.
