Tracing the SW border of the Svecofennian Domain in the Baltic Sea region: evidence from petrology and geochronology from a granodioritic migmatite

Evgenia Salin et al.

Summary: Geological investigations of a part of the crystalline basement in the Baltic Sea revealed that the inherited zircon cores from a migmatized granodioritic orthogneiss are correlated with the oldest generation of granitoids of the Transscandinavian Igneous Belt. The majority of the zircon population suggests that migmatization occurred at 1812 +/- 5 Ma, with possible disturbance during the Sveconorwegian orogeny, indicating a complex geological history in the region.

A 1.85 Ga volcanic arc offshore the proto-continent Fennoscandia in southern Sweden

E. Salin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geological background of the Froderyd Group in the Vetlanda-Oskarshamn belt and its corresponding volcanic arc characteristics, describing the tectonic evolution of the region during the Paleoproterozoic era. The research reveals that the Vetlanda and Vastervik sedimentary basins formed in two different geological environments, each associated with distinct geological events.
