Summary: The quartz monzodiorites from the Helanshan Complex were formed through fractional crystallization of mantle-derived magma and assimilation of crustal material in a post-collisional setting. These rocks record a tectonic transition from compression to extension during the period around 1.95-1.93 billion years ago.
