Ignition temperature and mechanism of carbonaceous dust clouds: The roles of volatile matter, CH4 addition, O2 mole fraction and diluent gas

Dejian Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that with the increase in oxygen content, the ignition risk of dust also significantly increases, while replacing nitrogen with carbon dioxide can significantly reduce the ignition risk of dust. Different dust samples have different reactions to the addition of small amounts of methane, and factors such as gas mixture density and the diffusivity of X-O2 can affect the ignition process.

Experimental study and mechanism model on the ignition sensitivity of typical organic dust clouds in O2/N2, O2/Ar and O2/CO2 atmospheres

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the minimum ignition temperature of three typical organic dusts in various atmospheres, revealing that CO2 is most effective in reducing ignition sensitivity. The risk of dust explosions significantly increases with higher oxygen mole fraction, as demonstrated by a logarithmic reduction in MIT for the three dusts.

Experimental study on the minimum explosion concentration of anthracite dust: The roles of O2 mole fraction, inert gas and CH4 addition

Peng Zhao et al.

Summary: Increasing oxygen mole fraction increases the explosion risk of coal dust, with CO2 showing better inhibition effect on explosions but CH4 moderating this effect. The explosion risk of hybrid anthracite/CH4 mixtures is higher, and the results provide some assistance for explosion prevention and suppression in industries dealing with carbonaceous dust.

Suppression effect of inert gases on aluminum dust explosion

Shulin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that carbon dioxide exhibited a superior suppression effect on aluminum dust explosion compared to nitrogen. As the inerting volume fraction of inert gas increased, the heterogeneous reactions promoting the generation of intermediate species were mostly suppressed, while those consuming intermediate species were facilitated. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen exerted certain suppression effects on surface reactions in their characteristic ways.

Experimental and theoretical study on the inhibition effect of CO2/N2 blends on the ignition behavior of carbonaceous dust clouds

Wenying Wu et al.

Summary: This study experimentally and theoretically investigated the inerting effect of gaseous inhibitors on the ignition process of dust clouds in O-2/N-2/CO(2) atmospheres, focusing on the role of the CO2/N-2 ratio. It was found that a higher ratio of CO2/N-2 leads to a stronger inhibition effect on the ignition process of dust samples with relatively low volatile matter contents.
