Effect of limestone and dolomite flux on the quality of pellets using high LOI iron ore

Pallishree Prusti et al.

Summary: The utilization of limestone and dolomite as flux materials in pelletization of Indian goethitic-hematite iron ore significantly improves process efficiency. The high kaolinite content in the ore contributes to high LOI, affecting pellet quality. Addition of limestone and dolomite enhances pellet properties, reducing swelling index and increasing strength.

Effect of basicity on the reduction swelling behavior and mechanism of limestone fluxed iron ore pellets

Yufeng Guo et al.

Summary: The investigation found that the swelling of limestone fluxed iron ore pellets was mainly caused by crystal volume expansion due to crystal structure transformation. Low basicity amplified the volume expansion, while high basicity decreased swelling. Complex calcium ferrite in high basicity pellets promoted uniform reduction rate, reducing the swelling of pellets. Increasing basicity above 1.0 to promote the formation of SFCA was an effective way to decrease the reduction swelling index of limestone fluxed pellets.

Influence of SiO2 on the gas-based direct reduction behavior of Hongge vanadium titanomagnetite pellet by hydrogen-rich gases

Ruiqi Zeng et al.

Summary: SiO2 has a complex effect on the reduction process of HVTMP, both promoting and inhibiting reduction. With an increasing amount of SiO2, the size of metallic iron grains gradually decreases, the number of metallic iron whiskers decreases, and reduction swelling is alleviated.

A review: research progress of flux pellets and their application in China

Kaikai Bai et al.

Summary: Flux pellets have been widely investigated and used as burden materials of blast furnace, but their research and practical applications in China are slow due to historical reasons and raw material limitations. Despite showing excellent adaptability in ironmaking, there is still a lack of sufficient investigation on the preparation and utilization of flux pellets in China.

Effect of CaO and MgO additives on the compressive strength of pellets: Exploration on the decisive stage during induration

Rongrong Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that MgO additives have a negative effect on the strength of pellets, while the addition of CaO additives can eliminate this effect. Results showed that the roasting stage plays a decisive role in the change of pellets' strength by accelerating the reaction between MgO and Fe2O3 through the formation of a liquid phase. The interaction experiment confirmed the acceleration effect of lime on the reaction between magnesium fines and magnetite.

Effect of basicity on the reduction swelling properties of iron ore briquettes

Guo-Cheng Zhang et al.

Summary: The basicity of iron ore briquettes has a significant impact on the reduction swelling index (RSI), increasing the basicity can promote the formation of iron whiskers and therefore increase RSI; however, excessively high basicity can hinder the diffusion of Fe2+ ions, leading to a decrease in RSI.
