Multiple-Output Artificial Neural Network to Estimate Solid Cycle Times in Conical Spouted Beds

Idoia Estiati et al.

Summary: Knowledge of cycle times is crucial for designing spouted beds. Artificial neural networks, whether single-output or multiple-output, can provide satisfactory predictions of particle cycle times in conical spouted beds, with the latter showing better performance in predicting all cycle times.

Fine particle flow pattern and region delimitation in fountain confined conical spouted beds

Mikel Tellabide et al.

Summary: A novel borescopic technique combined with pressure fluctuation signal monitoring has been used to study solid flow dynamics in confined conical spouted beds. The study reveals characteristics of particle velocity distribution under different configurations and outlines interfaces within the spout-annulus and fountain core-periphery. Among the configurations analyzed, the system without draft tube exhibits the highest vertical particle velocities, showing unique spout expansion patterns compared to literature correlations.

Pyrolysis of plastic wastes in a fountain confined conical spouted bed reactor: Determination of stable operating conditions

Santiago Orozco et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the optimal conditions for stable operation in the pyrolysis of waste plastics, focusing on improving gas-solid contact. The research results indicate that polymers with low decomposition temperatures or high branching degrees require lower operating temperatures, and increasing the bed mass to plastic feed rate ratio and spouting velocity can reduce the temperature needed to avoid defluidization. Additionally, the use of a catalyst can effectively lower the temperature required for stable operation by reducing the activation energy of cracking reactions.
