Experimental and numerical investigation on the separation of hydrophilic fine particles using heterogeneous condensation preconditioning technique in gas cyclones

Jiarui Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of operating parameters on the heterogeneous condensation process and separation efficiency of gas cyclones. The results showed that increasing the initial supersaturation degree led to an increase in particle size and removal efficiency, while increasing the gas flow rate decreased particle size and increased removal efficiency. The use of heterogeneous condensation preconditioning technique significantly improved the removal efficiency of fine particles in gas cyclones.

Heterogeneous condensation combined with inner vortex broken cyclone to achieve high collection efficiency of fine particles and low energy consumption

Yumeng Zhang et al.

Summary: Gas cyclones are commonly used for separating particles from gas, with recent advancements focusing on techniques such as using supersaturated water vapor to increase particle size and vortex-broken wings to reduce pressure drop. This study examines the synergistic effect of combining these techniques, showing significant improvements in fine particle removal efficiency and reduced pressure drop. Computational fluid dynamics simulations reveal the mechanism behind these improvements, highlighting the destruction of the inner vortex by the vortex-broken wing and the enhanced vapor distribution for condensational growth of particles.
