Assessment of various nano-clays in bromobutyl rubber hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber blend for improved gas barrier applications

T. R. Aswathy et al.

Summary: In recent decades, butyl rubber and derivatives have been mainly used for air barrier applications. However, hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) has gained attention for its air barrier properties. A blend of brominated butyl rubber (BIIR) and HNBR has shown improvements in technical features and processing behavior, with the addition of nano-clays further enhancing these properties.

Influence of carbon black on the Payne effect of filled natural rubber compounds

Xuanyu Shi et al.

Summary: The enhancement of the Payne effect by incorporating carbon black in natural rubber has been investigated, with findings showing that low temperature and high frequency accelerate the effect. The destruction and recovery of carbon black agglomerates are not synchronized with the appearance of the Payne effect, indicating that the structural evolution of the filler phase is not the main factor dominating the effect.

Synergistic effect of graphene with graphene oxide, nanoclay, and nanosilica in enhancing the mechanical and barrier properties of bromobutyl rubber/epoxidized natural rubber composites

T. R. Aswathy et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of hybrid nanofillers on bromobutyl rubber/epoxidized natural rubber composites for developing highly air-impermeable nanocomposites. The addition of graphene oxide, nanoclay, and nanosilica enhances the dispersion of graphene nanoplatelets in the composites, resulting in improved air barrier properties. The study demonstrates that hybrid nanofillers can enhance the mechanical, barrier, and dynamic properties of the composites compared to those filled with individual graphene nanoplatelets.
