Influence of molecular structure on the rheological properties and foamability of long chain branched polypropylene by one-pot reactive extrusion

Yan Li et al.

Summary: Reactive twin screw extrusion was used to synthesize long chain branched polypropylenes in a one-pot process, with the effects of different conditions and optimal synthesis conditions studied. The prepared LCB-PPs were characterized using FTIR, SEC, and rheological analysis, showing improved foamability and cellular morphology when foamed with supercritical carbon dioxide. Foams with an expansion ratio of over 20 were achieved under optimal conditions.

Shear and Extensional Rheology of Linear and Branched Polybutylene Succinate Blends

Violette Bourg et al.

Summary: The rheological behavior of linear and branched polybutylene succinate blends were investigated under different processing conditions, revealing that a higher level of branching in the blend leads to increased relaxation time and improved strain hardening during uniaxial elongation. The 50/50 wt% blend exhibited similar behavior to linear polybutylene succinate under extensional flow, indicating potential benefits for processing.

Rheological and foaming behaviors of long-chain branched polyamide 6 with controlled branch length

Menglong Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of long-chain branched polyamide 6 samples (LCB PA6s) with well-defined branch length were successfully fabricated via reactive extrusion using various linear PA6s as reactive materials. The GPC-rheology method was used to demonstrate the existence of LCB topological structure and quantitatively determine the relative branch length for three LCB PA6s. Rheological characterization showed that increasing branch length resulted in enhanced elastic response and melt strength of PA6s. Additionally, the melt foamability of these LCB PA6s was verified through batch foaming experiments with supercritical CO2 as the blowing agent, showing potential for large-scale production via continuous extrusion foaming process.
