Self-healing Polyurethane Elastomer Based on Molecular Design: Combination of Reversible Hydrogen Bonds and High Segment Mobility

Summary: The self-healing ability of polyurethane can be improved initially by increasing the length of polypropylene glycol blocks, but is ultimately reduced due to a decrease in hydrogen bond density. This study shows that there is a balance between the mobility of PU chains and the density of hydrogen bonds in determining the self-healing ability of the material.

The findings showed that SIC can either fully melt or partially persist depending on the maximum strain applied before sample retraction. Even-Odd Effect in Aliphatic Polycarbonates with Different Chain Lengths: from Poly (Hexamethylene Carbonate) to Poly (Dodecamethylene Carbonate)

Summary: The study revealed that the thermal properties and crystalline structure of aliphatic polycarbonates synthesized by organocatalysis are influenced by the number of methylene groups in their repeating units, showing a clear even-odd effect and a saturation of this effect. The even-odd region displayed differences in melting temperatures and unit cell structures between even and odd samples, while the saturation region showed a linear change in thermal properties with increasing methylene groups. The memory effect was weakened as the number of methylene groups increased, leading to a shift in conformation towards a PE-like structure.

Mechanical reinforcement and memory effect of strain-induced soft segment crystals in thermoplastic polyurethane-urea elastomers
