Confined crystallization and chain conformational change in electrospun poly(ethylene oxide) nanofibers

Nhu Quynh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study focused on the confined crystallization of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) in electrospun nanofibers. By using a rotating drum collector in the electrospinning process, the formation of a planar zigzag conformation and preferred crystal orientation parallel to the fiber axis were induced. Thermal treatment increased the melting temperature, degree of crystallinity, and crystallite size of PEO nanofibers, while not affecting the orientation of the organized crystals.
