Exploring the potential of group III salen complexes for the conversion of CO2 under ambient conditions

Vatcharaporn Aomchad et al.

Summary: Rare-earth-based complexes were developed and applied as homogeneous Lewis acid catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO2 and epoxides, achieving high turnovers over 100 under ambient conditions. DFT calculations and advanced buried volume calculations provided insights into the activity differences between complexes, with yttrium and scandium-based salen species exhibiting milder reaction barriers.

A spectroscopic experimental and semi-empirical study of [Eu (salen)2] as a red-emitter for phosphor-converted UV LED

A. M. G. Mutti et al.

Summary: This paper presents the synthesis of [Eu(salen)2] and [Gd(salen)2] complexes to address the lack of red-emission component in commercial WLEDs. Experimental results show that immobilizing the Eu complex in PMMA films can be used to manufacture a red emissive LED prototype, although the doped PMMA film prototype exhibited slightly poorer radiant photostability compared to the powder prototype.

Synthesis, crystallography, spectroscopy, and kinetics involving the fluorimetric detection of metal ions by internal imine derivatives of anthraquinone-18-crown-5 in aqueous media

Anwar Hussain et al.

Summary: Several aliphatic internal imine isomers were selectively synthesized and characterized in this study, showing selectivity towards various transition metal ions with large shifts in UV-Vis and fluorescence OFF-ON switching in solution. The 1:1 stoichiometry with different transition metals was determined, with the 1,2-ethlenediamine dimer exhibiting the best selectivity towards Hg(II). The study also presented selectivity in different solvent media, varying kinetics of transition metal binding with the macrocycle, and crystallography of the ligands and their metal complexes.
