Relationships between gut microbiota, plasma glucose and gestational diabetes mellitus

Ting Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that GDM patients in the second trimester of pregnancy had lower alpha-diversity in gut microbiota, which was significantly associated with glycemic traits. Microbial community analysis revealed significantly different microbial compositions, with certain genera being decreased in GDM patients and others increased. Moreover, microbial gene functions related to glycan biosynthesis and metabolism were found to be enriched in GDM patients, indicating a potential link between gut microbiota composition and GDM.

Gut microbiota in human metabolic health and disease

Yong Fan et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiota plays a significant role in human metabolic health, potentially contributing to the development of common metabolic disorders when dysregulated. Current research is shifting towards cause-and-effect studies and utilizing high-throughput human multi-omics data to identify potential molecular mechanisms behind these associations.

Summary: In patients with type 2 diabetes, there is an increase in lactobacilli and butyrate producers dominate the gut microbiota of healthy controls. The correlation between microbiota and metabolic parameters as well as inflammation is complex and varies among different genera.

Summary: This study compared the gut microbiota of Danish and South Indian individuals, identifying microbial signatures of T2D and metformin treatment. Both Danish and Indian T2D patients showed microbial changes, while metformin treatment led to a trans-ethnic microbial signature.

The Role of Enterobacteriaceae in Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Valerio Baldelli et al.

Summary: This article discusses the significant contribution of Enterobacteriaceae to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), particularly their role in exacerbating and progressing IBD. Despite the unclear mechanism, their expansion is associated with inflammatory responses, increased levels of nitrate and oxygen, and bile acid dysmetabolism.

Do variations in insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion in pregnancy predict differences in obstetric and neonatal outcomes?

Lene R. Madsen et al.

Summary: Continuous measurement of insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity combined with basic clinical variables was found to be superior to GDM (yes/no) or subtyping by insulin secretion and/or sensitivity impairment in predicting obstetric and neonatal outcomes in a multi-ethnic cohort.
