This study identified the binding sites of SigE and SigA using ChIP-seq analysis and found that they shared most of their binding sites, but SigE exclusively occupied the promoters of the SigE regulon.
SigE, one of the cyanobacterial alternative sigma factors that are highly homologous to primary sigma factors, governs the expression of sugar and nitrogen metabolic genes, but its preference for promoters was not understood. This article identified binding sites of SigE and primary sigma factor SigA via ChIP-seq analysis, and found most of their binding sites to be shared in common, but that binding sites exclusively occupied by SigE are promoters of the SigE regulon.
