Microbial-Assisted Wheat Iron Biofortification Using Endophytic Bacillus altitudinis WR10

Zhongke Sun et al.

Summary: Microbial-assisted biofortification has gained attention for improving nutrient content in wheat, with the endophytic strain Bacillus altitudinis WR10 showing effective regulation of iron homeostasis. Inoculation of WR10 in wheat seeds and soil resulted in increased yield and nutrient content, with significant improvements in total nitrogen, potassium, and iron levels in grains. Further analysis confirmed successful colonization and biofortification effects, indicating potential for large-scale applications.

Endophytic Bacillus altitudinis WR10 alleviates Cu toxicity in wheat by augmenting reactive oxygen species scavenging and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis

Zonghao Yue et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that endophytic Bacillus altitudinis WR10 can enhance copper resistance in wheat seedlings and alleviate copper toxicity through enhancing peroxidases gene expression and activity, as well as down-regulating glutathione 5-transferases to increase glutathione levels. Furthermore, WR10 regulated the expression of genes involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to improve plant cells' protection from copper toxicity. The findings suggest that WR10 alleviates copper toxicity in wheat by enhancing reactive oxygen species scavenging and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis.

Iron biofortification of crop food by symbiosis with beneficial microorganisms

Chuyu Liu et al.

Summary: Although iron is abundant in the earth crust, its bioavailability to plants is low due to its poor solubility in water. Beneficial microorganisms can enhance resistance and mineral uptake in crops, and their application in food crops is a good way to fortify iron. Synergism of beneficial microorganisms should be investigated before using biofilmed biofertilizers specific to some food crops for sustainable agriculture and human health.
