Structure-function relationships in the feto-placental circulation from in silico interpretation of micro-CT vascular structures

Monika Byrne et al.

Summary: A well-functioning placenta is essential for healthy fetal development, as it facilitates nutrient exchange between maternal and fetal blood. The structure-function relationship of placental vasculature shows resilience, with different vascular structures able to maintain normal vascular resistance. Local heterogeneities in placental structure may indicate an increased risk of placental dysfunction.
