Genome-Wide Association Study in New York Phytophthora capsici Isolates Reveals Loci Involved in Mating Type and Mefenoxam Sensitivity

Gregory Vogel et al.

Summary: Phytophthora capsici is a soilborne oomycete plant pathogen that causes severe losses in vegetable crops in New York state and worldwide. The study conducted genome-wide association study for mating type and mefenoxam sensitivity of P. capsici isolates and characterized the population structure and chromosomal copy number variation in the collection. The identification of candidate genes associated with important phenotypes provides a foundation for further functional validation.

Fitness and Competitive Ability of Field Isolates of Phytophthora capsici Resistant or Sensitive to Fluopicolide

Li Wang et al.

Summary: Field isolates of P. capsici resistant to fluopicolide have been identified for the first time, showing no reduction in fitness or competitive ability compared to sensitive isolates. These findings have significant implications for growers, providing guidance on avoiding or limiting the use of this fungicide in vegetable production.

Sensitivity of Phytophthora capsici from Tennessee to Mefenoxam, Fluopicolide, Oxathiapiprolin, Dimethomorph, Mandipropamid, and Cyazofamid

Timothy B. Siegenthaler et al.

Summary: Phytophthora blight caused by Phytophthora capsici is a destructive disease affecting vegetable production globally. Fungicides are commonly used for control, but resistance has been observed in Tennessee, particularly towards fluopicolide and cyazofamid. This study highlights the widespread fungicide resistance in P. capsici and its implications for disease management.
